JERVAN TROMP
Our SNUBA® Guides are with you every step of the way.
One of the things that makes SNUBA® so unique is that every tour is accompanied by a professionally licensed SNUBA® Guide. They are the lifeblood of our SNUBA® business. From the moment our guests arrive at their tour location and receive their 15-minute safety briefing to the moment they emerge from the water at the duration of their tour, our SNUBA® Guides are always there to lend a helping hand.
When you’re in the presence of a SNUBA® Guide, it doesn’t take long to feel the sense of passion and joy they bring to their jobs. They love the ocean and the freedom that comes from underwater exploration. Like all of our SNUBA® Guides, Jervan Tromp, SNUBA® Guide with DePalm Tours Aruba, is the perfect example of someone who simply can’t wait to share their love for the ocean. Jervan was kind of enough to share some of his thoughts with us. Enjoy!
An interview with Jervan Tromp, SNUBA® Guide with DePalm Tours Aruba
Tell us about your love for the ocean.
The love I have for the ocean is indescribable. Whenever I enter the water, it just feels like home. I get to see new and unique things every day, and the ocean always relieves whatever stress I feel.
What made you want to be a SNUBA® Guide?
I’ve wanted to dive for as long as I can remember. The company I work for, DePalm Tours Aruba, has been a licensed SNUBA® Operator since before I started with them in 2013. When I was first introduced to the concept of SNUBA®, it was love at first sight, and I’ve been working as a certified SNUBA® Guide ever since.
Tell us about the SNUBA® experience with DePalm Tours Aruba
With DePalm Tours Aruba, we offer two experiences: ‘Palm Pleasure Catamaran’ and ‘DePalm Island’. With our ‘Palm Pleasure Catamaran’ tour, guests depart on a one-hour tour aboard our 70-foot long, 40-foot wide catamaran with beautiful views, an open bar, and the option of snorkeling or doing SNUBA®. DePalm Island is our private island that includes SNUBA® as well as a variety of other amazing activities.
Our SNUBA® and snorkeling tours include stops at the Antilla Shipwreck, Boca Catalina, and Arashi Reef where our SNUBA® Guests have the opportunity to see a large variety of tropical fish, colorful coral reefs and other marine life that call the waters of Aruba home.
Is SNUBA Diving scary? Are there any tips to help people overcome their fears?
My favorite part of taking a group of guests on a SNUBA® dive is that I can help people overcome their fears of being underwater and help them to relax and find the joy in exploring our underwater world and seeing the beautiful marine life. Seeing their happy faces after each dive makes it all worth it! The best advice I have for those fearful of doing SNUBA® is to simply trust your SNUBA® Guide, believe in yourself, calm your breathing, and always stay focused.
In your opinion, what makes SNUBA so unique?
One of the best things about SNUBA® is that you don’t need any certifications, and because it’s so easy, just about anybody can do it. In addition to our regular SNUBA® program for guests eight years old and up, we offer a SNUBA® Doo program that’s just for kids aged six and seven.
Tell us something amazing about Aruba that you think people need to know.
Aruba is a very beautiful island containing several nice beaches. Tourists from all over the world travel near and far to stay on the island. The weather is always nice and doesn’t vary much throughout the year, and the people here in Aruba are always very friendly.
