FRANK CUMMINGS – LEADING THE WAR ON LIONFISH
Beyond running VI SNUBA® Excursions, Frank Cummings has become a driving force in protecting the ocean. His relentless fight against lionfish—one of the most destructive invasive species in the Caribbean—has earned him recognition as an environmental champion. Lionfish devastate reefs by devouring native fish, slashing populations, and outcompeting natural predators, disrupting the delicate balance of marine ecosystems.
Known locally as the “Lionfish Destroyer Extraordinaire,” Frank serves as President of the CORE Foundation on St. John, where he trains divers to safely and responsibly remove lionfish from Virgin Islands waters every day. His dedication has earned multiple honors, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Champion Award in 2017.
